Broadway Calls in AP

Broadway Calls are part of this month’s issue of AP as one of the bands that the magazine recommends.  Read on, comrades.

“THE STORY SO FAR: while their hardcore outfit Coutndown To Life were on hiatus in 2006, Ty Vaughn (vocals, guitar) and Josh Baird (Drums) conceived the melodic Broadway Calls with former CTL roadie Matt Koenig (bass, vocals) according to Baird, “Pretty much to make van payments and fill in the gaps of tour.” But within weeks of forming, BC managed to bang out a six song EP, Call The Medic…, and book their own month-long jaunt. Soon after, the band released their proper full-length debut, which was picked up and reissued by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s Adeline Records.”

“WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW ‘EM: Many hardcore kids these days start post-Lifetime pop-punk bands and fill them with nasally vocals, ill-advised keyboards and double bass drumming. Broadway Calls rely on no such gimmicks. Their self-titled album is an earnest affair, featuring nods to un-coventional inspirations in the realm of hardcore. (It even includes a cover of the Smiths’ “A Rush And A Push And The Land Is Ours.” With Broadway Calls set to play UK institutions like the Reading & Leeds Festivals this year (not to mention stateside appearances at Bamboozle Left and Warped Tour), is meeting the Moz - their unlikely hero- a possibility? ‘If we do [meet him], someone might faint,”, says Baird. “I won’t name any names, though.”

Broadway Calls = Warped Love Child

I don’t know what that means. But i do know that Warped Tour loves the boys. They’ve been added to all dates for the 2008 tour, and Kevin Lyman does a giant rant on the boys on the front page of the website. That should equal 1 million sales. Or 1 million free downloads…ah, crap.

Broadway Calls Featured Artist on Spin.com

You should go to spin.com (at the link below) and rate the album. Give it a five, you stingy bastards. Oh yah, here’s what spin had to say:

Artist of the Day on Spin.com: What’s the Deal? Too much passing for pop-punk nowadays so easily triggers irritation that it’s easy to get down on the entire genre. But then albums like Broadway Calls surface boasting songs like “Van Rides and High Tides,” where charging guitars give way to a buoyant chorus proclaiming, “My heart beats faster every night / Please let this last forever,” and suddenly you’re 15 again, singing your heart out in some kid’s basement, smiling and dancing like an idiot with 50 of your er, closest friends. Melodic romps like the vigorous “Escape from Capitol Hill” and “Call It Off” will touch a nerve with fans of the Loved Ones and Latterman, while the pounding and obscenely catchy “Suffer the Kids” is sure to get every ass in the room shaking.

Smallman To Release Broadway Calls Full Length

We’re excited to announce both the signing of Broadway Calls in Canada and the domestic release of their self-titled debut full-length album July 10th, 2007.

Broadway Calls is the sometimes pop, sometimes punk, always ultra-catchy band hailing from Rainier, Oregon. Having been compared to bands like Latterman, Green Day, Alkaline Trio and Kid Dynamite, Broadway Calls appeals to an audience of intense, genuine music lovers: The kind of crowd that loves to sing every word to every song.

Within the first year together Broadway Calls wrote and recorded their album, completed a full US tour and played shows with Crime In Stereo, I Am The Avalanche, The Smoking Popes, Avail, This Is Hell, Set It Straight, Ruiner, Dead Hearts, and Final Fight.

Accomplishing that much in their first year can mean only one thing: This band is fishing with the right hooks. The songs are melodic, straight-ahead and extremely difficult not to sing along to.  Produced by Willie Samuels of Green Day’s Production team at Pittsburgh’s Nu-Tone studios, this album is so well crafted that it would find good company amongst veteran bands such as Lagwagon, The Ataris and Saves the Day.

Formed in the winter of 2005/2006, Broadway Calls is Ty Vaughn (Guitar/Vocals),

Matt Koenig (Bass/Vocals) Robert Baird (Guitar) and Josh Baird (Drums).  The band is built on the solid foundation of Josh and Ty’s decade-long history of making music together. Their previous band Countdown to Life was signed to New Age Records (Strife, Countervail, Lifetime).
